Shane Mosley Jr. earned a sixth-round stoppage victory over favorite Serhiy Bohachuk to reassert himself in the middleweight division at ZUFFA Boxing 06 in Las Vegas.
The American boxer (23-5, 5 KOs) – who hasn’t won a fight by knockout or stoppage in three years – showed no fear against the heavily favored Bohachuk, who previously won secondary and interim titles in the weight class below super-welterweight.
Mosley Jr. grew into the fight as the rounds progressed, consistently fighting the Ukrainian’s advances with impressive combinations and counterpunching, and the Ukrainian needed all of ten seconds to recover from an early knockdown in the sixth.
His resistance didn’t last long, though, as Mosley clashed with his opponent against another brutal right against the ropes, forcing the referee to stop the contest with 2:38 left in the sixth round.
After a unanimous decision loss to Jesus Ramos in December, the victory reignited a stalled career for Mosley Jr., himself the son of legendary boxer Shane Mosley Sr.
“I want my piece of the Mosley pie to be great and show it,” Mosley Jr. said after the fight.
“I wanted to do this sport for me. I told everyone when I was 15 – when I got punched in the nose, I wanted to come back.
“That’s the result of that. Punched in the nose. Punched in the mouth. What’s up? I’m in.”
