It was just 24 hours after Zamalek beat Smouha in the sixth round of the title race to cement their place in Egypt’s top flight before Al-Abyad received the usual news that the new ban had been suspended.
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) on Wednesday informed the Zamalek club of the 16th suspension of its registration, a few months before the opening of the summer transfer window for the next 2026-27 season.
FIFA did not reveal the reason for the suspension, and the dispute lies with Al-Abyad, who is struggling to pay the debts of many of his former players and coaches, which prevented him from signing any deals during the recent winter transfer window.

These disputes threaten Zamalek’s continental future, as in order to obtain a license from the Confederation of African Football, it must provide proof that its record is free of any financial disputes with any party to compete in the continental championships next season.
Apart from Zamalek, the lists include several Egyptian clubs banned from registering new players with FIFA, notably Premier League duo Ismaili (3 cases) and Modern Sport (2).
Zamalek travel to Algeria today, Wednesday, for the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final against USM Algiers next Saturday night.
The Whites lead the Egyptian Premier League with 53 points, two ahead of runners-up Pyramids and three ahead of rivals Al-Ahly, who are third in the table.
