Yung Philly: British rapper and YouTuber testifies at own rape trial in Australia

The rapper, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, testified in the District Court of Western Australia. Monday – one week after the start of the trial.

He is accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman in his hotel room after performing at Hillarys on Perth Beach.

Barrientos, 30, pleaded not guilty to six counts of indecent exposure, three counts of assault causing bodily harm and one count of strangulation.

Barrientos told the court that he “untied” the woman when they met at the concert venue. He was in the VIP area when she leaned against the barricade from the general area.

He denied touching her inappropriately.

“I remember putting my hand on her waist,” he told the court. But he said he did not put his hands on her pants or touch her breasts.

When they arrived at the hotel later, the “disdain between them was good,” Barrientos said.

His bodyguard took the woman’s phone — a “standard practice” to protect her privacy, Barrientos said.

The court heard the couple had consensual sex before Barrientos turned violent and she told him to stop.

Barrientos, who was visiting Australia at the time of the crime, is also known for working with YouTube’s collective Beta Squad, and has appeared on the popular Bake Off on Channel 4 and presented three BBC shows.

He has been on bail since the charges and was allowed to fly to England in September for four months before returning to Western Australia before the trial.

In addition to 1.8 million YouTube subscribers, he has three million followers on Tik Tok and 2.4 million on Instagram.
