Xbox prices go up another $100 or so

Microsoft is also increasing the prices of Xbox consoles. Starting August 1st, the 512GB models will be $100 more expensive, while the 1TB models will be $150 more expensive. That means the Xbox Series S will start at $499.99, the Xbox Series X without a disk drive will start at $749.99, and the Series X with a disk drive will start at $799.99. Microsoft also said that it will be “entering” the 2TB Xbox Series X.

“Last October, we raised the price of the XBOX by $20-$70 in the US,” Microsoft says in a blog post. “We expected that further cost increases would not be necessary, and we have spent several months working with suppliers on options.” Unfortunately, the prices of storage and memory have increased by 2.5x and we expect to double by the fall of 2027. The company is also introducing new programs to try to make new Xboxes cheaper, including buy now, pay later, interest-free financing if you buy on Amazon, and plans with retailers to create “new programs to offer pre-owned consoles at lower prices.”

Microsoft first released the Xbox Series S for $299 and Series X for $499 in November 2020. But in recent years, the company had to upgrade console prices more time due to factors such as the segmentation problem – a problem that is forcing every technology company to raise prices, including Apple.
