Worrying start.. The new duo are out of Chelsea’s pre-season squad

Why are Emmanuel Emega and Giovani Quinta missing from the Blues’ pre-season?

Spain’s Xabi Alonso, Chelsea’s new manager, has been dealt an early blow in pre-season training after two new signings were left out of the squad for the pre-season tour of Australia and Asia.

Chelsea have announced that 27 players will travel to Sydney, Australia for a pre-season training camp, with defender Marco Balestra, the team’s latest summer signing, joining from Atalanta for £43m, on the list.

On the other hand, the roster witnessed the absence of the pair of Emmanuel Emega and Giovanni Quinda, despite their official links with Chelsea in the current summer transfer window.

The London club had completed the transfer agreement with Strasbourg and Sporting Lisbon before the beginning of the summer, but their actual joining to the team took place in the current period.

Injury rules out Emega and Kwenda mysteriously absent

According to the newspaper “The sun“23-year-old British-Dutch striker Emmanuel Emega suffered a thigh injury during a closed friendly against English First Division rivals Bromley, which ended in Chelsea’s 3-0 win.

As for the condition of the 19-year-old right winger from Portugal, Giovani Quinta, it is not yet clear, as the reason for his absence from the roster of the preparatory stage has not been revealed.

Despite the early blow to Alonso’s plans, the duo still have a chance to join the team later in the tour if their conditions improve.

Absences due to the World Cup

A number of key players will also miss the tour due to World Cup qualifiers, led by Morgan Rodgers, who recently moved to Chelsea from Aston Villa in a £117million deal, in addition to captain Rhys James.

The players continue to rest after a long career with England at the World Cup before returning to the team in preparation for the new season.

Chelsea beat Bromley with three unanswered goals in a friendly behind closed doors. The team’s goals were scored by Joao Pedro, Jimmy Gittins and Emmanuel Emega before the latter was injured.
