World Relays: GB&NI’s mixed 4x400m team won bronze

Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s mixed 4x400m team won bronze at the World Athletics Relays in Botswana, while four GB teams also qualified automatically for the 2027 World Athletics Championships.

Alex Haydock-Wilson, Lena Nielsen, Jake Minshull and Yemi Marie John finished third behind the USA and Jamaica in three minutes 8.24 seconds.

A podium finish qualifies for the 4×400 medley team Inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships September in Budapest.

GB’s men’s 4x100m, women’s 4x400m and mixed 4x100m line-ups advanced from Saturday’s heats to Sunday’s final, securing a place in Beijing next year.

The women’s 4x100m team, who were disqualified after finishing second in their opening day heats, came second in their Sunday repechage for one of the four remaining World Championship slots.

But the men’s 4x400m quartet, who finished seventh in their first race, finished third in their repechage and will bid to qualify for Beijing in time at a later date.

The women’s 4x400m squad finished fourth, while both the men’s and mixed 4x100m teams failed to get the baton round in their finals.

British athletes won medals in five relay events at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but failed to reach the podium at last year’s world championships in Tokyo.
