World Cup: Ivory Coast’s Elye Wahi rejects Canada’s entry to Germany game | World Cup 2026 news

Wahi was not allowed to travel after he was arrested last month during a land-planning investigation in France.

Ivory Coast star Elye Wahi will not travel to Canada for this weekend’s World Cup match against Germany in Toronto because his travel permit has not been obtained, the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) said on Thursday.

The announcement came a day after Wahi was linked to a sports corruption investigation, with French authorities saying illegal betting was found in the yellow cards Wahi received during a Ligue 1 match for his club Nice last month.

Wahi, who was not immediately available for comment, was not named as a suspect.

A spokesman for Marseille’s public prosecutor’s office told Reuters the 23-year-old Ligue 1 player was arrested on May 29 as part of an investigation into alleged fraud, match-fixing, handling stolen goods and money laundering.

Wahi started up front as the Ivory Coast beat Ecuador 1-0 in their World Cup opener in Philadelphia on Monday. He will remain in the US pending the team’s return, the agency said.
