It will take something special to stop this Les Bleus juggernaut from reaching a third straight World Cup final.
France overcame a two-hour storm in Philadelphia, Deschamps missing one match (he returned home for his mother’s funeral) and the ‘dark arts’ of Paraguay to reach the last eight.
They were an absolute joy to watch, especially when he scored 25 tries against Sweden in the last 32. To the horror of their rivals, they still have another pair of gear that we haven’t seen yet at this World Cup.
Mbappe, Olisse and Dembele aren’t the only ones with 20 goals between them. Les Bleus are yet to fall behind.
Arsenal’s William Saliba and Olisse’s Bayern Munich team-mate Diot Upamecano have dominated the defense as they have conceded just twice in five games – in a 3-0 win over Senegal and a 2-0 win over Norway.
Who can stop France? If they get past Morocco, they will face either Spain or Belgium in the semi-finals. Unbeaten Spain will be a big challenge.
Les Bleus were upset by Paraguay before finding a way to win – and I suspect Deschamps’ side will have too much firepower for Spain, while their intensity off the bench is eye-watering.
