Switzerland forward Bril Embolo has received his ESTA approval and could travel to the United States to join the rest of his teammates as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup.
Embolo did not travel with the Swiss squad Tuesday because his ESTA — an automated system that determines whether an international visitor is eligible to enter the United States without a traditional visa — was placed under review.
“We have just been informed that Brill Embolo’s visa has been approved,” the Swiss Football Federation said in a statement.
“So he can go to the United States. He is expected to join the team on Friday evening.”
A review of Embolo’s Esther related to a Swiss court’s ruling on a 2018 Embolo dispute in Basel.
The 29-year-old, who has scored 23 goals in 85 appearances for his country and played in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, was found guilty of making multiple threats in 2023 and given a suspended fine.
After the appeal ruling was upheld, Swiss media reported in April that Stade Rennais had decided not to take the case to federal court, finalizing the forward ruling.
He attended an appointment at the US Embassy in Bern on Wednesday before receiving approval.
Switzerland will be in San Diego for the World Cup, which will be held across Canada, Mexico and the United States, and begin their campaign against Qatar on June 13 in Santa Clara.
Their other Group B games are against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Inglewood on June 18 and co-hosts Canada in Vancouver on June 24.
