Qatar midfielder Asim Madibo has been handed a five-match ban for challenging Canada’s Ismael Kone at the World Cup.
Madibo, 29, was sent off during Thursday’s 6-0 loss to Qatar for a foul that left Kone with a broken leg.
FIFA’s disciplinary committee has now issued a five-match ban for serious foul play, which is subject to appeal.
Cone suffered fractures to both the tibia and fibula bone in his lower left leg and the former Watford midfielder will miss the rest of the tournament.
