Former Spain international Joan Capdevila has appealed to US President Donald Trump for help after being denied a visa to enter the US ahead of Sunday’s World Cup final.
Capdevila, 48, was part of the Spain team that defeated the Netherlands in the 2010 World Cup final.
The retired full-back had hoped to reunite with his former team-mates and watch Spain make their second World Cup final when they face Argentina at the MetLife Stadium on Sunday (20:00 BST).
“I need help @realDonaldTrump!” Capdavila posted on Friday X.
“They just told me I can’t go to the final with my kids because my ESTA has been denied.”
The former Villarreal and Deportivo defender added: “Can someone help me with this? You have no idea how excited I am to be there with my 2010 team-mates and with this team to cheer them on.
“I can’t believe they won’t let me go to the US… and I’ll miss a moment with my kids who love soccer so much.
“If anyone knows how to fix this, I’ll be grateful to you for the rest of my life.”
Capdevila called on US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to help resolve his situation and tagged the Spanish government’s sports ministry in his post.
