England manager Thomas Tuchel has spoken of wanting to continue the work of former boss Gareth Southgate in building a connection between fans and the squad after years of disappointing tournaments.
Under Southgate, England reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2018 and the finals of the European Championships in 2021 and 2024 as fans rallied behind the squad.
Kane is one of three players to remain in the squad from 2018, along with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and defender John Stones.
The 32-year-old, whose two strikes against Croatia saw him equal Gary Lineker’s record 10 World Cup goals, said he was enjoying the “freshness” of Tuchel’s squad.
“It feels a little different. Our roles have changed a little bit obviously, more experienced guys, older guys,” Kane said.
“There’s a freshness about it, where you see the hunger, desire and excitement of the players on the team to be a part of what could be a really special summer.
“You can see us around the place, everyone moving on, everyone being with each other, spending time together, but you can also see it in training – the way we train, the intensity we train to compete for places, but there’s no grudge against your competition.
“It’s literally, let’s just compete for places and whoever plays plays and I’ll be ready to come in and make a difference when I get my turn.”
England’s next match in Group L is against Ghana on Tuesday in Boston at 21:00 BST.
