World Cup 2026: England players rested after Mexico win

England manager Thomas Tuchel allowed his players an offsite family day on Tuesday as the squad recharged after their rousing win over Mexico.

The team was allowed to leave their hotel in Prairie Village near Kansas City, many of them using the opportunity to spend time with loved ones away from their World Cup camp.

Tuchel’s pass extended into the evening before he returned to camp for the team’s first training session on Wednesday as they prepare for Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final against Norway.

Tuchel has given his players two days off since Sunday’s 3-2 win in Mexico City – a result and performance many have described as England’s best World Cup performance since the 1966 final.

But there are concerns about how mentally and physically taxing the game at the Azteca Stadium – combined with the four games before the win over Mexico – was for players playing at high altitude.

Sources indicated that the team’s final training session before the game against Mexico was essentially a walkthrough of squad size rather than any physical exercise with Tuchel increasingly conscious of conserving energy for the latter stages of the tournament.

Indeed, Tuchel is hopeful that allowing his players to step away from team camp on Tuesday will ease the pressure on his squad ahead of the clash with the Norwegians in Miami.
