World Cup 2026: England players host team-bonding dinner in Miami

England players have hosted a team-bonding dinner in Miami after Thomas Tuchel took time off from their grueling Florida pre-World Cup training camp.

Arriving at their base in West Palm Beach on June 1, the players completed several intense training sessions in the scorching heat as they look to prepare themselves for the hot and humid conditions they may face during the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

And the trip to Miami will provide one final chance for them before they fly to Kansas City on Saturday, where they will base themselves for the finals.

England beat Costa Rica 3-0 in their final warm-up game in Orlando on Wednesday, before immediately returning to West Palm Beach for a behind-closed-doors match against local side Miami United on Thursday.

But once that training exercise was over, boss Tuchel committed his squad to a day-and-a-half before their flight to Kansas City – and told them to return to base on Friday evening after a planned dinner.

Tuchel has tried to create a relaxed atmosphere during the team’s training camp, although it is understood he was forced to express frustration at half-time during what he felt was an underwhelming performance in a hard-fought 1-0 win over New Zealand.

The players enjoyed a round of golf after practice and were joined on the course by American five-time major winner Brooks Koepka, while European Ryder Cup champion Ian Poulter also visited Costa Rica after the game.

Families are allowed into camp and players are usually given their own time after training.

But when they get to Kansas City on the weekend, the reins are likely to tighten.

During major tournaments under former boss Gareth Southgate, players were usually allowed to visit their family members immediately after the game and the day after.

This is likely to happen again under Tuchel, but access to time away from the team hotel in Kansas City may be limited with a greater focus on match preparation.
