Roberts had earlier praised the England fans for their behavior in the United States and called for it to be reflected domestically when the team faces Argentina in the World Cup semi-final at the Atlanta Stadium on Wednesday (20:00), which will Shown live across the BBC.
Speaking about the issues in the UK, he said: “The majority of these incidents are alcohol related and alongside extended licensing hours, we have seen an increase in calls to premises with large screens which are attracting large numbers of fans.
“This behavior is really disappointing. Internally this tournament is the worst we have seen for incidents and arrests.
“If we can have 40,000 fans together in Miami without any problems, why can’t the fans follow their exemplary behavior and do the same back home?”
He added: “Ahead of Wednesday’s game I would urge fans back home to follow those in the US who are leading by example – enjoy the game and the atmosphere, go out and have fun but do it without causing trouble to yourself and others.”
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Police Department has “increased its citywide public safety and security posture” ahead of England’s game against Argentina.
It added: “Additional staff and resources have already been deployed and will continue to be strategically allocated in and around event venues, entertainment districts and other high-traffic areas to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
“These proactive measures are designed to protect the public, deter criminal activity and ensure residents and visitors can safely enjoy this historic event.”
