England fans in the United States have been praised by the police for their good behavior in the World Cup group games, but recent tournaments have seen domestic incidents.
The United Kingdom Football Policing Unit (UKFPU) has stated that there have been no reports of violence or unrest involving England fans in the United States; Out of the 5 arrests, only two came in the World Cup match.
But there were 463 football-related incidents in England and Wales – far higher than the figures for Euro 2024 (304) and the 2022 World Cup (291).
The behavior of Scotland fans in the States has also been praised, although figures are not included in this report.
Mark Roberts, head of the UKFPU, said: “The behavior of the England fans – and indeed the Scots – in the group stages of the World Cup has been excellent.”
“In our pre-arrangement, we brought to the attention of local law enforcement the good history of our fans at recent World Cups, and then when the fans were arrested by the police for their behavior, it was not an old name, but a big deal.”
The five arrested England supporters were released by US authorities and referred to the UKFPU.
Of the 463 football-related incidents, 162 were in licensed premises and 109 were classified as domestic incidents, usually involving family members over the age of 16.
Eighty-eight people have been arrested, which is the same again at Euro 2024 (66) and at the 2022 World Cup (56).
Many football-related arrests in the UK come under public order laws, including a wide range of anti-social behavior such as swearing, shouting, intimidation and violence.
Ahead of the World Cup, 1,958 football fans who have been banned from football have been asked to surrender their passports.
