World Cup 2026: Can England fans win Boston’s hearts after Scotland party?

Most of the remaining Scotland fans in the United States will now head to Miami for their final group game against Brazil on Wednesday (23:00 BST), replacing between 10,000 and 15,000 England fans previously. Tuesday’s game against Ghana (21:00 BST).

So will the special relationship with British football fans continue?

Brandon, who has now added to his beer stock, added: “I think England will play their favorite role, but Scotland are overdogs, so I think it will be a bit different.

“I think it will be a bit under the wild. We’ve taken Scotland under our wing. We’re in love with Scotland now, so we’re on their side.

“I think there are a lot of other teams here that people would pick other than England. But I think Scotland definitely jump the list here.”

The mood is similar in the Dubliner pub in the city centre, which is a hub for Scotland fans during their stay.

“Scotland kind of took us on, really,” manager Brian McDonnell said.

“It was nothing crazy, you know. They’re very nice people.

“We’re very aware that we’ve been beaten, we’ve all been working long hours. So they’re a great gang and it’s sad to see them go, but I’m sure there will be other people stepping up to take their place.”

Asked if England fans would receive the same welcome, he added: “Maybe we won’t fly the English flag outside the Scottish flag, but they’ll still be welcome and they’ll still have a good time.”

On Monday night, footage emerged of Marcus Mumford – lead singer of folk band Mumford & Sons – shouting at a game at Fenway Park, jokingly blaming the rainy weather in Scotland.

Indeed, chants of No Scotland, No Party can be heard at one point.

It could be a sign of the challenges England fans will face in conquering the city with the way they have treated their Scottish counterparts.

But some are convinced that it can be done.

“We know it’s going to be one of the biggest cities to visit this World Cup outside of Boston,” said Thomas Concannon, head of the England Supporters’ Embassy at the Football Supporters’ Association.
