World Cup 2026: Can Argentina make a move after the final?

When the final whistle blew in New Jersey, a handful of Argentina players – including Lionel Messi – took to the pitch.

Spain’s players raced around the pitch in jubilation while others stood motionless.

Rodri, who came on as a substitute in extra time, ran from the dugout and joined his teammates.

Manchester City midfielder Nahuel Molina was seen punching Argentina defender Rodri in the hand or stomach.

It was this fuse that caused the problem.

He faced Rodry Molina, but it was the Argentine who pushed forward in attack.

Garcia ran to support his teammate at which point Paredes got involved, punching Garcia in the throat.

Unused substitute Gavi tried to intervene, but was tackled to the ground by Thiago Almada.

Paredes puts his hand on the Spaniard’s face and pushes Gavin to the floor.

Then Argentina assistant coach Roberto Ayala seemed to grab Garcia by the throat. He then appeared to beat Spain midfielder Dani Olmo.

Alan Shearer said in a BBC report: “Parades threw two or three haymakers in front of a man. “There is no place or place for that.

“We know how much it is for them and we know how much it hurts to lose, but there is a way to lose. We have seen it many times from Argentina. The reaction after the final whistle is terrible.”

Joe Hart added: “It’s game over, they can’t have any complaints about what happened today, disgusting behaviour.”

But Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni, who tried to calm the situation down, downplayed the issues in his post-match interview.

“We are gracious in victory, and we must be gracious in defeat,” he said. “Today we are showing how to win.

“We lost the game and we accept it, but that doesn’t mean we forget everything we did to get here.”
