Wooting 60HE v2: Peak Keyboard Perfection

The most controversial feature is the Simultaneous Opposing Cardinal Direction (SOCD) setting. This allows one key to override the other instead of registering both at the same time, which is great for tactical shots like tactical shooters. Counter Strike 2 and Appreciation. The difference in the speed of the reaction is immediately apparent, which makes it much faster to look at. However, due to the unique advantages it offers, the feature has been banned in some competitive games because it reduces the delay between the incoming movements to close to zero without requiring additional skills.

Testing this in a variety of shooters and runners, I was always impressed with Wootility’s smooth transitions – something that’s not possible on a traditional mechanical keyboard.

The gaming experience of this keyboard is impressive. The switches are surprisingly smooth and consistent, offering granular control and immediate, low-key inputs. While older Hall Effect keyboards from competitors like Keychron and Asus often don’t have the same impressive mechanical color scheme, Lekker’s Wooting switches close the gap.

RGB lighting also looks great and is easy to adjust. Like most LEDs, they tend to lean a bit blue, but this is easily corrected in the software (I set mine to 203/192/180 for white). It’s the little things that put the spotlight on me.

The simple internal design of the 60HE v2 makes maintenance easy, allowing the keyboard to be assembled in seconds. Although this is easy to find, Wooting’s solid construction ensures that everything stays in place. Inside, you’ll find a plate, switches, a layer of silicon, a PCB with rubber feet on the bottom, your choice of wet layer, and the case.

Switch settings are often weak for analog keyboards, but the 60HE v2 outperforms competitors from Keychron, Razer, and ROG, which often support two or three switches. Based on the widely used KS-20 design, the 60HE v2 works with switches from Gateron, Geon, and several other manufacturers, providing users with an ever-growing variety.

My only gripe is the design of the GH60, which places the USB-C port on the left side of the PCB. While I would prefer a dedicated port on a dedicated kid’s board for ease of use and customization, I understand the choice. The overall benefits to consumers and producers ultimately outweigh this minor gripe.

I’m impressed with how well this keyboard performs on every metric. The design is solid, the switches are smooth and consistent, and almost every part can be adapted to any player. Apart from the lack of wireless connectivity, it leaves nothing to be desired.

The 60HE v2 is one of the best keyboards available today. Even though it’s refundable, if you want to be patient, it’s worth the $240 price tag.
