Women’s World Snooker Championship: Thai teenager beats Wren Evans 6-2 in final at Panchaya Channoi

Thai teenager Panchaya Channoi beat Rayne Evans 6-2 in the final to win the Women’s World Snooker Championship title.

Evans was bidding to win the tournament for a record-extending 13th time but the 40-year-old Englishwoman was comfortably second best against Channoi in Dongguan, China.

A century break from Channoi in the first frame set the tone for the 18-year-old who was later in control at 3-1.

Evans, considered the most successful player in women’s snooker history, trailed a frame but Channoy’s 107 break in the sixth frame gave her a 4-2 lead.

Channoi then took the seventh frame before a 59-run break in the eighth match helped him secure the Mandy Fisher Trophy.

The Thai player became the second player to win both the world and under-21 titles after China’s Bai Yulu in 2024.

Channoi is the third Thai winner of the event, following in the footsteps of Mink Nucharut and Siripaporn Nuanthakhamjan.

Evans was playing in his first World Snooker Championship final since 2019 and was beaten in a tournament decider for the first time in his career.
