Australia’s national selector was Shaun Feller previously confirmed, outsider That Molyneux was not considered for a non-bowling role in the World Cup.

“Sophie has already made her mark as captain and built a strong bond with the group over the last few tours, so we look forward to seeing what this team can achieve under her leadership,” Feller said in the squad announcement.

“Darcy Brown was unfortunate to miss out but the decision was made based on the conditions we expect and the make-up of the team.

“With at least six right-arm pace options and raw pace expected to be less effective, we opted to go with Lucy Hamilton who offers something different as a left-arm quick.”

Molyneux’s side will play warm-up matches against South Africa, England and the West Indies before the tournament kicks off against South Africa at Old Trafford on June 13.
