Women’s T20 World Cup: England captain Nat Syver-Brunt ‘positive’ after second scan

After Wednesday’s win over the West Indies, England released a statement confirming that Sciver-Brant had batted in the nets earlier in the day.

The all-rounder’s chances of playing against New Zealand on Saturday were always unlikely when that game was confirmed to be a dead rubber.

He has not played since his retirement England win against Ireland In their second match of the tournament.

He initially suffered a “minor” calf tear while playing domestic cricket in late April and missed the series against New Zealand and India earlier in the summer.

England also said he is progressing well.

“Although his calf is responding well to treatment, England’s medical team feel that he needs some more time to rehabilitate before he is available for selection,” a statement said.

England will not know until Sunday evening whether they will play in the first semi-final on Tuesday or the second semi-final on Thursday.

Tuesday’s match is scheduled for 14:30 BST to suit Indian TV and India will play in that match if they qualify.

This means that if England top their group, as now seems likely, they will play on Thursday if anyone other than India finishes second in Group One, but will be switched to Tuesday if India finish second.

India will play Bangladesh on Thursday before a crucial tie against Australia on Sunday afternoon.
