Women’s Super League: Newcastle are in talks to sign Leanne Kieran.

Newcastle United are in talks to sign Republic of Ireland striker Leanne Kiernan from Liverpool.

The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest but still has more than a year left on his Liverpool contract.

Second-tier Newcastle are expected to pay a fee to bring in Kiernan, who spent five years at Liverpool and has signed an extension until 2025.

The striker has netted 23 goals in 76 games for the Reds and played a key role in helping them win the WSL 2 title in 2022, finishing as the club’s top scorer in 14 games.

Kiernan made over 40 appearances for West Ham in the WSL after starting her career at Shelbourne before joining Liverpool.

Kiernan has made 38 appearances for the Republic of Ireland since her debut in 2017.

However, she has struggled to get game time under Liverpool boss Gareth Taylor since one spell in the WSL before joining Forest in January.

Liverpool are also targeting German forward Vivien Endemann this summer with the arrival of Wolfsburg.

Kiernan brings attacking depth to Newcastle after a busy transfer window with six additions as they prepare to challenge for the WSL 2 title.
