Women’s Six Nations: Sluggish Ireland show Welsh progress stalls

Compared to their second-half display against England, where they scored two late tries for bonus-points, Wales could muster little after the break in Belfast.

Ireland were completely dominant in possession and territory, with last year’s player of the championship Aoife Weafer in charge.

The only consolation for the traveling fans was a try from Jasmine Joyce in the 78th minute but it was not enough to prevent Wales going away empty-handed.

“We’re ranked 12th in the world, we’ve played the No. 5 team in the world and you can obviously see when you’re away from home, you have to be a lot more clinical,” Wales head coach Sean Lynn said.

“We said in the huddle at the end of the game, we have to get better with our composure and accuracy.

“I wouldn’t say the girls dropped their heads. They stuck to it, stuck to their process, but Ireland kept the ball really well.

“The girls give everything out there and when you see them upset after the game because they care, they want to win, so it’s tough.”
