What did he say about the Argentine star?
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo insisted on Wednesday that his club is not ready to sell Argentine international Julian Alvarez in the current summer transfer window.
After the Argentina-Austria match of the 2026 World Cup, Alvarez publicly announced that he wants to leave Atletico Madrid to pursue his dream.
According to multiple media reports, Alvarez wants to move to Barcelona this summer. However, his statement after the Austria match angered the Atleti chiefs.
In his statements to RNE radio, Cereso said, and the newspaper reported:Mundo Deportivo:“The problem caught us by surprise and we did what we had to do. We have confirmed that he is an Atletico Madrid player and that we have not received any offers from anyone, and that even if there are offers, we do not want to sell him.”
Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, for his part, commented on the controversy surrounding the Argentinian striker’s possibility of joining the Catalan team on Radio Cadena Ser’s El Larguero program, where he confirmed that if the player comes to Barcelona, he will be welcomed with “open arms”, adding:
Barcelona, Real Madrid and Arsenal have all expressed interest in signing the Argentine striker, who has a contract with Atletico Madrid that runs until June 30, 2030 and includes a €500 million release clause.
