Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has spoken about the future of his Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes after the end of the current season, amid interest from Saudi clubs in his inclusion.
Bruno Fernandes has shone this seasonHe set the Premier League record for most assists in a single season (21 assists) and led the Red Devils to qualify for the Champions League by finishing third in the English league.
Bruno has also won two Premier League awards from the Premier League and the Sports Writers’ Association of England.
Fernandes almost left for Saudi Arabia a year ago after Manchester United were willing to listen to an offer worth around £100m from Al Hilal, who were prepared to pay around £200m for the player over three years.
It also emerged that Fernandez’s contract includes a £57million release clause for clubs abroad and the contract expires after 13 months, although United have the option of extending it by a further year.
But Carrick believes the 31-year-old is happy at Manchester United and will no longer be tempted to leave.
After Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Brighton in the last round of the Premier League on Sunday evening, Carrick said:
“I have no reason to think otherwise, you know. We loved what he did and he loves being here. I think you can see it. He wanted to stay on the pitch and he wants to stay in every game because he enjoys football and that’s great.”
Fernandes was also optimistic about the future after United confirmed the appointment of Carrick as manager on a permanent deal ahead of the Brighton game.
The Portuguese said: “Obviously, it is a very important step for our club. We need stability in governance. Since Michael joined the club, as you know, he is calm, he gives the team calmness and composure, and he also does it in moments when he has to put pressure on us.”
He continued his statements. “He knows the club, what it means and what it takes to be there. We are very excited about the upcoming events. We finished the season strongly and this bodes well for what is to come.”
