Wimbledon 2026: Serena Williams injures knee and doubts to play two matches against sister Venus

Serena Williams’ hopes of playing doubles with older sister Venus at Wimbledon appear in doubt.

The pair, who are six-time All England Club doubles champions, will meet on a Grand Slam court for the first time since 2022.

However, 44-year-old Serena Williams may not be fit to play after suffering a swollen knee during Tuesday’s loss to Australia’s Maya Joyce.

The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion did not speak to the media following the match, with Wimbledon organizers saying she “couldn’t do it”.

“Serena tweaked her right knee at the end of the first set and was excused from her media duties by the Wimbledon and WTA medical teams,” Williams’ agent Jill Smoller said.

“She left the station unaided that night and is doing everything she can to get ready for her doubles match later this week.”
