Nick Kyrgios swore at the umpire and says he doesn’t care if his return to Wimbledon is penalized for losing the men’s doubles.
The Australian was making his debut at the All England club after losing to Novak Djokovic in the 2022 final, having been plagued by injuries in recent years.
The 31-year-old, who is currently ranked 899 in the world, has not shown any sign of singles competition.
In the doubles partnership of Alexander Bublik, the pair lost 6-3 6-4 to sixth seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Matt Pavic.
The incident happened after Kyrgios was broken early in the second set.
French umpire Manuel Absolu spoke to Kyrgios, who responded with one telling remark: “Honestly, you can punish me at this point, I really don’t care.”
“You can be punished. All these rules are so stupid anyway.”
Kyrgios has been fined three times in the 2022 season, totaling £14,500.
Two of these incidents involve swearing and the other is spitting in the direction of the viewer.
Kyrgios, who has struggled with knee and wrist injuries in recent years, secured his first ATP Tour-level victory since March 2025 at the Stuttgart Open in June.
