Wimbledon 2026 results: Alexander Zverev beats injured Taylor Fritz to reach semis, ends disappointing run

Alexander Zverev produced a dominant display against an injured Taylor Fritz to end his disappointing losing streak and reach his first Wimbledon semi-final.

The second seed had lost his previous seven bouts with Fritz and trailed 10-5 in their head-to-head, including two defeats at the All England Club.

But with the American hampered by a knee injury, Zverev produced a near-perfect performance to claim a 6-4 6-4 6-2 win on Court One – his first win over Fritz in two years.

A month after winning his first Grand Slam singles title at the French Open, Zverev is now just two wins away from a second major trophy and the German held his hand high after securing victory in just under two hours.

“He’s been beating me for two years in a row and I’m very happy to finally win and go to the semifinals,” Zverev said.

“Obviously it’s in the back of your mind that you haven’t beaten an opponent in over two years, he’s beaten you so many times in a row.

“It’s always in the back of your mind, but today I knew I had to play a flawless match, I had to play an almost perfect match to have a chance and I felt like I did that today.”

As Zverev served for the match, news of Ferri’s victory spilled onto Court One, drawing cheers from Center Court and the Hill.

“Okay, you all can be in favor of Ferri – I understand and I have no problem with that,” Zverev said when asked about his last-four opponent.

“It’s a fairy tale for him – a fairy tale for Arthur Ferry, see what I did there?

“I just have to trust myself and trust my tennis and see what happens.”
