Wimbledon 2026: Olly Tarvet, Billy Harris and Max Basing qualify for main draw


Olly Turvett, Billy Harris and Max Basing have reached the main draw at Wimbledon, the first time since 1999 that three British players have progressed from qualification.

Tarvett, 22, beat Greece’s Stefanos Sakellaridis 6-4 6-2 7-5 for his much-needed third win of the week at Roehampton to become the third British player to qualify in as many years.

Last year, he qualified to reach the second round at the All England Club, where he was Defeated by defending champion Carlos Alcaraz.

“I’m definitely overwhelmed at the moment, but the main emotion for me is happiness,” he told BBC Sport.

“I think I’ve come a long way from where I qualified last year. I think I’ve had some challenges as well, which makes these wins even sweeter.

“I think it was putting too much pressure on myself. It seemed like I had to replicate the level and results I had at Wimbledon. I think those expectations didn’t help me.”

Harris, 31, overcame a poor start to beat China’s Yi Zhou 1-6 7-6 (7-2) 6-2 6-3, while wildcard Basing joined his compatriots in the main draw for the first time with a thrilling five-set victory over Switzerland’s Remy Bartola.

But former British number one Heather Watson failed to progress in the women’s draw, losing to top seed Maria Timofeeva of Uzbekistan 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.

A total of 21 British players will be in the singles draw at Wimbledon, which starts on Monday.

Two of them – Cameron Norrie (26th) and Emma Radukanu (30th) – have been seeded and all players will learn their first-round opponents when the draw is made on Friday.

2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu of Canada also qualified for the main draw with a 6-3 7-6 (7-4) win over Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus.

Andreescu, 26, will play in the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time since the 2024 US Open.
