Will we see more heat waves this summer?

In the past two months, the UK has experienced two heatwaves, which are significant and have broken long-standing temperature records.

This has not happened since 1911.

And we’re still relatively early in the summer with our hottest weather typically coming in late July and August.

While the current June temperatures will slowly end over the weekend with a return to average conditions, there are signs that we could see more heat waves this summer.

It’s been a weather rollercoaster known as a ‘high pressure area’ since May.Heat dome“- bringing dry, sunny and very warm weather across the UK. A new May record temperature of 35.1C was set at Kew Gardens, London.

June – and the beginning of meteorological summer – then started on a wet and very cold note with temperatures falling well below average.

A low pressure from the Atlantic Ocean brought a series of wet weather in the first half of the month with all of June’s rain.

The weather changed again and in a dramatic twist we experienced yet another scorching heat, breaking the all-time June temperature record.
