Morocco coach Mohamed Webe has settled the controversy surrounding the health of Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi after he revealed his stance on a place at the 2026 World Cup finals following reports that he was injured in the latter stages of the season with PSG.
Morocco’s national team will compete in Group C of the 2026 World Cup alongside Brazil, Scotland and Haiti in a strong group where the Atlas Lions look to continue their impressive international performance in recent years.
Morocco will begin their tournament campaign against Brazil on June 13 at the MetLife Stadium before taking on Scotland on June 19 and finishing their group stage matches against Haiti on June 24.
During his guest appearance on Al-Riyadiah TV channel, Webb confirmed that the national team’s injuries remain minor and do not require concern, noting that the medical staff continues their daily work to prepare the players and ensure their return in the best possible condition.
The Moroccan coach explained that medical documents are handled with extreme caution, especially at this sensitive stage before the start of the World Cup, while stressing the importance of the psychological aspect of injured players, in addition to treatment and physical rehabilitation.
“Thank God, at the moment there is no player outside the selection circle. All the injured players can recover and return, but you have to keep calm and give them enough time until they fully regain their fitness.”
“There are two important factors for us: the first is to fully recover from the injury from a medical point of view, and the second is to fully recover physically and athletically, because the highest level of fitness is needed to participate in the World Cup.”
Webb’s comments will allay concerns among Moroccan fans who have been monitoring the health of a number of national team mainstays led by Ashraf Hakimi, Shadi Riyad, Naif Akrad and Ismail Sibari in recent weeks, especially in light of the pressure of games at the end of the European season.
The Moroccan national team is expected to enter a closed training camp at the Mohammed VI Football Complex from May 29, before leaving for the United States of America on June 3 in preparation for the 2026 World Cup finals.
