Reports in the media have linked Spanish coach Xabi Alonso with Chelsea, who are looking for someone to replace England’s Liam Rosenior, who was sacked due to poor results.
Chelsea appointed Callum Macfarlane as interim manager to replace Rossior, his second time in the job since the sacking of Enzo Maresca, during which he took charge of the team for two games.
For his part, journalist Fabrizio Romano downplayed the importance of the news linking Xabi Alonso’s name with the position of coach at Chelsea.
In the latest update, Romano has confirmed that there is currently no concrete or advanced agreement between Chelsea and the former Real Madrid manager.
Romano also noted that Liverpool have not made direct contact with Alonso in 2026, despite speculation surrounding the club’s training situation.
The transfer pundit added that Alonso remains open to opportunities in Europe as he prepares for his new assignment.
Chelsea remain linked with the Spaniard amid growing uncertainty over the club’s future direction after a disappointing season.
Reports in recent days have suggested that the Blues have already held positive talks with Alonso, although Romano confirms that talks are currently not at an advanced stage.
