Mbappe needs just one World Cup appearance to become France’s top scorer. The 27-year-old surpassed Olivier Giroud at the top of the list after that his goal is Senegal in the first round of France.
The Real Madrid player is now the only player with 64 goals for the French national team, Giroud has 57.
Thierry Henry is third on the list, with 51 goals for his country, while Antoine Griezmann is fourth with 44 goals.
Scorer for France at World Cups
Unsurprisingly, Mbappe is also France’s top scorer at the World Cup.
His strike against Senegal was his 14th World Cup goal, surpassing Just Fontaine’s record of 13 goals, all scored at the 1958 World Cup.

Mbappe’s strike in Boston also took him to 20 goals at the World Cup, just one behind Messi on the all-time record.
Most final goals in the World Cup
Mbappe’s first goal against Sweden broke another record, as the Frenchman became the leading goalscorer in knockout games at the World Cup. It also moved him above Brazilian greats Leonidas and Ronaldo on the all-time list.
The talisman also scored for Sweden, before picking up goals against Paraguay and Morocco, and is now top of the heap with 12 World Cup goals.
