Where is Wales’ next male golf star coming from?

Harry Wells is golf’s most recent success story.

The 23-year-old has played for his country at the amateur level since his mid-teens Has progressed professionally Last year after getting first LET card.

Harry, who is 190th in the women’s world rankings, believes her progress has come in part from her mental attitude.

“I think it’s probably the worst thing to overcomplicate, ‘Oh wow, I’ve moved up the leagues now, I’m in professional golf’,” he said.

“Because really it’s the same game. You’re out there trying to do the same thing.”

Harry’s boyfriend is Jacob Skov Olesen, a rising Danish golf star who is in his second year on the DP World Tour.

“I’ve been around men’s golf a lot now and I’ve noticed that they’re absolutely amazing at what they do,” he added.

“How do we get people (in Wales) (on the men’s tour)? They’re working on it from a young age, really working on their processes and trying to aim for it.”

Jenkins hopes that’s where Wales Golf Trails comes in

He rejects the idea that, as a small nation, Wales should accept that it is unlikely to produce many top-class players.

“Small can be beautiful if we all get together, everyone from the club works together and we start going there,” Jenkins said.

“The talent is there, absolutely. Our under-16 group is one of the best I’ve seen, even in 10 years in England golf.

“Our job now is to continue to make them better and better through the system.”
