Sony, its owner the PlayStation version, has been accused of being a critic. The case was settled in 2024 but was rejected twice during the legal process. Last week, judge to be approved the initial reopening of the settlement.
The lawsuit, which was brought in the San Francisco division of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, accuses the company of preventing other retailers from selling PlayStation titles through “special game vouchers.” This means preventing customers from buying games elsewhere and forcing them to buy digitally on Sony’s PlayStation Network, where it controls prices without worrying about its competitors.
The settlement means that the company was not charged with wrongdoing, but must pay about $8 million to the affected players. Unfortunately, this can take time.

Do I have to be paid?
If you bought digital games on the PlayStation Network between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023, then yes, you are eligible for the cut.
What Games Are Included?
You can get a full list here of games that are eligible for payment.
If you’ve played anything during that time and bought it from the PSN store, chances are you’ll be included. Games include The Last of Us, Resident Evil 4and many sports games, such as several generations of Madden, NBA 2K, and FIFA
How Do I Get Paid?
Fortunately, you won’t have to do much. Once the settlement is complete, the funds will be deposited into the payment account linked to all eligible PSN accounts.
If you want to opt out of the payment, or refuse it altogether, you can do so by writing a written request. This is not necessary unless you have a problem with your payment, or you want to sue Sony for the same issue later. Accepting payment now automatically means you are giving up the right to sue Sony in the future.
What if I no longer have my PSN Account?

The deadline to submit a check request is August 27, 2026.
How Much Money Will I Get?
Probably not much, unfortunately. This $7.85 million will be divided among the legislators who oppose the establishment, and then spread to the accounts of millions of PSN users. It’s hard to say exactly how much, but it’s likely to be a few dollars.
I’ll Take What I Can Get. When Will the Funding Begin?
The settlement hearing will not take place until the Fairness Hearing, which is expected to take place on October 15, 2026. Once that is completed, the funds may take weeks or months to settle.
Class action lawsuits are not very popular with consumers in most cases. They certainly don’t like being on time. This stability was prepared for the first time in December 2024, but two official requests were rejected. The language in the district stated that the payment would be made after April 1, 2025. As you can tell, the wait is not over.
