Ryan Fox followed Lucas Herbert and Sam Barnes into the history books with a 154th Open, becoming the latest player to join an exclusive club with a ’62 round in the men’s majors.

Herbert matched the lowest round in Open history with an eight-under 62 at Royal Birkdale.Branden became the first to manage it – at the same venue – during the third round of the 2017 competition, eight years after Grace.

The Australian threatened to post an even lower total when he was nine under with two holes, including a par-five to reach two, but carded a par-bogey finish to register just sixth 62 in the men’s majors.

Herbert’s 62 matched Burns’ on a remarkable day, with the American chipping out of the greenside bunker on the last four to complete his second-round 62 with a three-birdie finish.

Barnes and Herbert’s effort came six days later Haran Riou breaks major record with third-round 60 to win Amundi Evian Championship.

More history was made a day later when Fox charged up the leaderboard during the third round, combining nine birdies with a lone bogey to set the early clubhouse lead, marking the first time that three players had posted a ’62 round in the same week.

Branden Grace, The Open, 2017 (R3)

There were 31 previous rounds of 63 in the history of the men’s major championship, but South African Grace Royal became the first man to go under after carding eight birdies in a bogey-free round at Birkdale.

He posted five birdies in a front-nine 29 and followed up another with back-to-back gains from the 16th at 14, two-putting par at the end to set a new benchmark in the men’s game.

Rickie Fowler, US Open, 2023 (R1)

Fowler became the first player to card a round of 62 at the US Open, combining 10 birdies with two bogeys to move to eight under par on the par-70 layout at Los Angeles Country Club.

Fowler posted three birdies in a five-hole stretch from the 12th and canceled a bogey with a four-birdie run at the 17th, then picked up shots at the sixth and eighth before two-putting from 60 feet.

Xander Schauffele, US Open, 2023 (R1)

Hours after Fowler made US Open history, Schaffel followed suit at the same venue after carding eight birdies in a bogey-free start to her bid for a first major title.

Schaffel made a 40-footer on her opening hole and posted three birdies in her first five, with five more after the turn — including a 60-footer from the fifth hole — to put her at eight under.

Xander Schauffele, PGA Championship, 2024 (R1)

Schaffel carded nine birdies during a stunning bogey-free opening round at Valhalla Golf Club, seeing him record the first ’62 round at the PGA Championship and just fourth in the men’s majors.

He became the first player in major history to card multiple rounds of 62, with his first-round nine-under equaling the lowest score — even for par — in the men’s majors when Schaffel two-putted from 30 feet on his final hole.

Shane Lowry, PGA Championship, 2024 (R3)

Lowry was eight strokes off the halfway lead but produced a stunning nine-under 62 two days after Schaffel, carding nine birdies in a bogey-free round and missing a chance on the final hole to post a men’s major first round of 61.

He raced to the turn in 29 and posted a back-to-back birdie at the 13th, Lowry added one more at the 17th and missed a 12-foot birdie chance at the last for the outright record.

Lucas Herbert, The Open, 2026 (R2)

Herbert equaled the lowest front-nine in major history when he raced to the turn in 28, including a 40-footer on the seventh among six birdies on the front nine, as the Australian added back-to-back gains to climb from 11th to under.

A sub-60 round wasn’t out of the question when he birdied the 16th and found the fairway off the tee at the next-five, but Herbert missed a 10-footer for birdie before missing a putt from five feet to save a leg at the end.

Sam Barnes, The Open, 2026 (R2)

Barnes was playing two groups behind Herbert and reached the turn in 32, the American started his back nine with consecutive birdies and added another from tap-in range at the 13th.

He picked up a shot on the 16th and rolled from 20 feet to birdie the 17th, then birdied the last four from a greenside bunker to delight the record-breaking Open crowd and add his place in history.

Ryan Fox, The Open, 2026 (R3)

Fox followed three birdies in the first five holes with another hole-in-four from 55 feet at the par-four sixth, the New Zealander picked up a shot from the eighth to reach the turn at 29 and then started his back nine with a birdie.

He overturned a bogey on 13 to take advantage of the next-five and posted back-to-back birdies from the 16th, leaving him looking for a final-hole birdie for a complete history, with a final two-putt par enough to add him to the ’62 club.

The lowest round at The Masters is a 63, posted by Nick Price in 1986 and Greg Norman during the first round in 1996, with numerous rounds of 63 each at the PGA Championship, US Open and The Open.

The lowest round on the PGA Tour is 58, posted by Jim Furyk at the 2016 Travelers Championship, while the DP World Tour record is Oliver Fisher’s 59 at the 2018 Portugal Masters.
