For the 49-year-old Toronto woman, who described herself as “practically terminal,” she can’t do anything, work, leave the house or talk to loved ones. She is now enrolled in a psychiatric program at a local hospital, she said, which is designed to support people with severe and persistent mental illness who have exhausted all treatment options.
