Everything is interconnected. Perez lays out the whole plan
The dossier of the new Real Madrid coach continues to dominate the Spanish media in recent days, with many names vying for the Merengue coach’s seat.
The leader of these names is Benfica coach Jose Mourinho, who previously led Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013.
Most media reports in recent days have stated that Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Mourinho to become the new coach of Real Madrid, replacing Alvaro Arbeloa, but the club will not officially announce the deal now.
Real Madrid exited with a second straight winless season, in addition to numerous dressing room crises, the most recent of which was an altercation between Aurelien Choumini and Fede Valverde, which resulted in the latter being taken to hospital.
Florentino Perez, president of Real Madrid, spoke at a press conference Yesterday, Tuesday, he confirmed that he would not be stepping down and called for snap elections, challenging any candidate to stand against him.
When Perez was asked about Mourinho at the conference, he avoided the answer and did not give any indication about the identity of the new coach of Real Madrid.
“Perez’s call for elections in itself testifies to his intentions towards the Portuguese coach. Logically, if he calls an election within the next two days, and no one is expected to stand, he will return to the presidency on Sunday, May 24, just one day after Real Madrid’s final game against Athletic Bilbao.
“Mourinho has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave Benfica for three million euros until ten days after the team’s last game. It’s a match that still gives his team a chance to qualify for the Champions League, albeit by a small margin.”
The match will take place on Saturday, May 16, against “Estoril”. The stand-off clause will therefore remain in place until May 26, just two days after the inauguration of Florentino Perez as club president.
“It’s all connected,” As commented.
Real Madrid’s bylaws stipulate that the outgoing board of directors remain in place until a new president is elected, so they can sign a technical director, but it would not look professional to appoint a coach before the nomination deadline.
“It’s true, it’s a slim possibility, but it’s possible that someone could run after that and win the election against Florentino, which would force him to keep Mourinho, even though he wasn’t his first choice. Therefore, it seems that Florentino has carefully calculated the timing to make sure that everything is compatible.”
For his part, Mourinho said after the draw with “Braga” last Monday night. “I won’t talk about my future until next Monday. From Monday I will be able to answer questions about my future as a coach and the future of Benfica. Don’t worry, there’s only one week left.”
“AS” concluded. “Mourinho will accept Real Madrid’s offer, but he has made two requests to have a say in the transfer policy (on the positions that need to be strengthened, not specific players) and that the hierarchy of the club’s structure is respected to avoid situations like what happened between Vinicius and Xabi Alonso.
