Wero won again as Broders-Boll lit up the 800m debut

Audrey Wero derailed her pursuit of the long-standing women’s 800m record as the two-time 400m hurdles world champion impressed in her first outdoor race at the Femke Broders-Boul distance.

Swiss athlete Wero stunned Kiley Hodgkinson Won in Stockholm two weeks ago with a time of one minute 53.98 seconds – the third fastest women’s 800m time and the fastest in the world this year.

The 22-year-old was looking to break the record of 1:53.28 set by Jarmila Kratochvilova in 1983 at the Ostrava Golden Spike in Czech Republic.

He was in contention in the 600 meters but faded slightly to win in 1:54.55 – still the eighth-fastest in history.

Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles closed out the night by setting a world best of 14.67 in the unofficial distance of 150m.

The previous fastest time over the distance on the curved track was Jamaica’s 14.92 Kishan Thompson., outsider

Wero shined in the 800m as eight women finished under two minutes in a stacked field.

Dutch superstar Boll, 25, who married Belgian pole vaulter Ben Broders earlier this year, finished second in 1:57.13 to become the third-fastest Dutch woman to complete two laps.

He announced last year that he was switching events.

He is also the world indoor champion in the flat 400m and is a renowned relay athlete, the gold medal-winning anchor leg runner with the Netherlands’ 4x400m team at Paris 2024.
