Watch: Time of explosion as huge fire breaks out at Essex industrial site

More than 100 firefighters were sent to tackle the huge blaze after a huge explosion sparked a fire at an industrial unit in Essex on Friday.

A video posted on social media shows the explosion engulfing the surrounding area and some people are seen running away from the fire.

Essex Fire Service has declared a major incident due to the extent of the fire, warning people to stay away from the area and keep doors and windows closed if you live nearby.

In an update Friday evening, the fire service said the fire was under control and there was no widespread threat to the public.
