Last Friday’s eruption at Mount Etna on the Italian island of Sicily sent a bright lava flow at least 300 meters (1,000 feet) below the summit.
Etna Observatory, Italy’s institute for geophysics and volcanology, said the eruption was initially at an altitude of 3,000 meters.
