War on Iran: What’s happening on day 64 as Trump rejects Tehran’s request | US-Israel War on Iran News

US President Donald Trump says the latest peace deal with Iran includes terms he ‘will not accept’.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, expressed his disappointment Iran’s latest peace proposalssaying that they are “asking for things that I cannot accept”, and warning of ending the conflict very quickly, only for conflicts to return “in another three years”.

At the same time, Washington has warned that ships that pay money or fines to Iran to pass through the Strait of Hormuz could face US sanctions, signaling a tougher stance on maritime activities linked to Tehran.

Meanwhile, a new Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll shows that 61 percent of Americans believe Trump’s use of weapons against Iran was a mistake.

Here’s what we know:

In Iran

  • Fourteen soldiers were killed on Friday while clearing unexploded bombs in the northwestern province of Zanjan, local media reported.
  • Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei urged his people to wage economic war and “depress” his enemies, because the war with the US and Israel and the years of sanctions are causing problems.
  • The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said it will impose “new regulations” on the waters near its coast, to turn them into a “source of security and development” in the region.

Discussions of war

  • The US State Department has imposed new measures on companies related to Iran’s oil exports, including the Qingdao Haiye Oil Terminal from China, accusing it of importing millions of barrels of illegal products and making Tehran billions in revenue. Beijing has dismissed the move as illegal “unfair sanctions”.
  • The State Department said it had withdrawn more than $8.6bn in military sales to Israel, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

In the US

  • Expert Sultan Barakat said Iran and the US they are “really desperate” to end the war in a way that allows them to “save face”.
  • Trump has told US lawmakers that violence in Iran is over, after pressure from Congress to seek authorization for the conflict as it nears its third month.
  • The US Treasury Department has imposed new sanctions on three Iranian foreign exchange companies in an attempt to stop the flow of Tehran’s “money”.
  • The USS Gerald R Ford has left the Middle East after being involved in the war against Iran, a US official has said, according to reports. Two other aircraft carriers – the USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS George HW Bush – are among the 20 US ships still in the area.
  • Mark Cancian of the Center for Strategic and International Studies said US military power “has not changed” as Washington reverts to its two-carrier strategy.
  • “The Ford team had left the United States last June, and the shipment has doubled. The ship’s crew is tired, so the United States is sending the team home,” he added.
