Walid Daqqa: An Equal Life | Notes

This is the story of Walid Daqqa, one of the longest-serving Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, as told by his family members and in a statement he made in prison.

From a young man with a sharp mind in 1948 Palestine to the secret organization of the PFLP who was sentenced to life imprisonment, Daqqa turns his room into a classroom, a think tank, and finally, a place of marriage when he marries Sanaa Salama inside the Ashkelon prison.

Through intimate testimonies from family members, ex-prisoners and his lawyer, the film explores Walid’s idea of ​​”equal time” – living under “tons of concrete” and beyond the fence. It tells of her husband’s trafficking, the birth of her daughter, Miladi, and her powerful message to him: hate oppression, not people. When cancer consumes him and Israel refuses his release, Milad’s last song, “Freedom for our prisoners. For my father”, parallels the struggle that passes through the life of Walid Daqqa.
