Wales: Craig Bellamy’s groin pain as Wales boss eyes improvement against Romania

before that 1-1 draw with Ghana in the World Cup At Cardiff City Stadium, Bellamy spoke of his desire to improve Wales’ poor summer record.

And three days after facing the Black Stars, he expressed concern about his country’s poor record in away friendlies.

The Red Dragons are winless in their last 16 away friendlies – a run that stretches back to November 2008, when Bellamy himself scored the only goal of the competition in Wales’ 1-0 win over Denmark in Brondby.

“When you look at the records our friendships are not great,” the Wales boss said.

“I think the last time we won was in 2008. It’s ‘Come on.’

“If we’re going to build expectations, demand of ourselves and the public, we have to have a better record than what we have.”

The competition in Bucharest presents an opportunity to end the summer schedule on a high and send Wales into their Nations League A campaign later this year on a positive note.

Bellamy’s side will face Portugal, Denmark and Norway in that campaign and captain Ethan Ampadu says Wales’ meeting with Romania offers a final opportunity to build towards those eye-catching fixtures.

“That was our focus in this June camp; raising our level, performing better, learning from the mistakes we’ve learned from the past and correcting them,” said the Leeds United midfielder.

“What’s to come is to make sure we’re ready to build momentum for that.”
