The Niger Football Federation has officially announced that Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger have submitted a joint bid to host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations final, making the trio the first officially announced candidates to host the continental edition in six years.
The Nigerian Football Federation has confirmed in an official statement that its African counterpart has finally approved the expression of interest submitted by three countries in response to an invitation issued by CAF in early July to receive documents from those wishing to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2028, 2032 and 2036.
“The Nigeria Football Federation informs the national community and the football community that the Confederation of African Football has officially confirmed that the expressions of interest of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger to host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations have been confirmed,” the Nigeria Federation said in a statement.
Will Senegal nominate?
The bid by three countries under the Alliance of Sahelian States (AES) has become the first official bid to host in 2032, pending Senegal’s bid to line up after it first announced its interest in hosting the tournament last May through former sports minister Khadi Dien Gai.
This joint file represents a new step by the three countries to increase their sporting presence as they look to host the African continent’s biggest football event in this collective format for the first time.
Libya enters 2028
In the race to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations, Libya has officially announced its candidacy to host the tournament, which will be the last before adopting the system of holding the competition every four years instead of the current system.
