Virat Kohli: Indian Cricket Star 2027 World Cup Prospects

India’s Virat Kohli says he will not play in the 2027 Cricket World Cup to prove his worth to the team.

Former captain Kohli is considered one of the greatest 50-over batsmen in history and was part of the last Indian team to win the World Cup in 2011. He was also instrumental in last year’s Champions Trophy success.

The 37-year-old has retired from India’s Test and T20 teams but remains involved in their 50-over squad.

“The environment I’m a part of and if the environment feels I can add value, I’ll be seen,” Kohli told the RCB podcast, when the topic turned to the next World Cup.

“If I’m made to feel like I have to prove my worth and my worth, I’m not in that place.

“When I come to play, I keep my head down, I work harder than anybody else, if not harder. And I play the game the right way.

“You want me to run from boundary to boundary for 40 overs in an ODI game, I will do it without complaint. Because I prepare accordingly.

“I’m prepared for the fact that I’m going to field 50 overs every ball like I’m going to play the last ball of my career, and I’m going to bat like that and I’m going to run between the wickets like that and I’m going to do whatever I can for the team.

“After working like that, if I have to be in a place where I have to prove my worth and my worth, that’s not the place for me. And from that point of view I’m very clear in my head.”
