Viral TikTok Brombil Reservoir owners warn visitors to stay away

In the year Since receiving the patent in 2024, Brombill Reservoir Limited said it has invested in structural surveys, engineering assessments, landscaping and waste cleanup.

He added that requirements from Natural Resources Wales (NRW) for high risk dams have increased significantly, requiring tens of thousands of pounds in ongoing safety investment.

Matthew O’Brien, of the NRW’s reservoir safety team, said the Reservoirs Act 1975 made owners “responsible for their reservoirs being properly maintained and managed”.

He added that these regulations were designed to “help manage reservoirs safely and reduce the risk of flooding to people and property.”

The company said it had repeatedly sought support from Neath Port Talbot Council and local politicians to fund and maintain the reservoir, but had received no response.

He added: “We really want to work constructively with Neath Port Talbot Council, the NRW and our political representatives to deliver a safe, biodiverse and safe place.

Brombill Reservoir Limited has warned that without public sector support or a partnership agreement, it may be forced to “stop the reservoir”.

He added: “This will unfortunately remove the area’s main flood defenses and destroy important ecological habitat.”

“We sincerely hope that local authorities will join us at the table to find a sustainable common future.”

The council said it had “advised the reservoir owners in due course”.

“As the place is private, decisions about its operation and investment are up to the owner,” he added.

“Future arrangements must ensure that visitor activity is handled responsibly and does not place undue pressure on local communities.

“We remain open to constructive discussions with the owner.”
