Villa supporters banned by UEFA for discriminatory behaviour

Aston Villa Ticket sales for European away games could be banned next season after an incident at the Europa League final.

Villa beat Freiburg 3-0 Goals from Yuri Tielemens, Morgan Rodgers and Amy Buendia in Istanbul on May 20.

But the Villans were later accused by UEFA of racist and/or discriminatory behavior by their supporters during the game.

BBC Sport understands that a banner was displayed which was offensive and derogatory in nature.

On Wednesday, UEFA announced that Villa had been fined €10,000 (£8,600) and their fans were given a suspended ban from attending a game.

“The ban on selling tickets to its away supporters has been suspended for a trial period of two years from the date of the current decision,” UEFA said in a statement.

UEFA can impose sanctions if such behavior is repeated.

Villa returned to the Champions League the following season by finishing fourth in the Premier League, although they also qualified for the Europa League trophy.
