Vikrum Digwa, the killer of Henry Nowak, to appeal his conviction and sentence

The man who killed student Henry Nowak has been convicted and is seeking to appeal his sentence, an appeals court has confirmed.

Vikrum Digwa was jailed for a minimum of 21 years after stabbing an 18-year-old boy to death in Southampton last December.

The sentence was previously appealed to the Court of Appeal by Attorney General Eli Reeves as “unreasonably lenient”.

But on Friday, the court confirmed that Digwa wants to appeal against the conviction and sentence.

No date has been set for an appeal or a bid to increase the sentence, with no details on Digwa’s challenge.

After stabbing Henry, Digwa lied to the police about being the victim of a racist attack.

The case later sparked an outcry after footage of him wearing a police bodysuit was released after the police failed to give him first aid and instead handcuffed him to death, even though he told them he couldn’t breathe.

When Digwa was sentenced at Southampton Crown Court, Henry’s father Mark Nowak said the difference between the treatment of the killer and his son was “unbearable”.
